The Merced Police Department is investigating two homicides that took place in a span of two days.

Officers responded to Tuesday’s shooting at 5 p.m. that occurred at Osito Apartments, located at Midge and Glen avenues.

When officers arrived, they found a 21-year-old man with a fatal gunshot wound. Officers provided life-saving measures but the man was pronounced dead, Lt. Jose Barajas said.

Before the shooting, Barajas said there was a fight. It is unknown if the shooting is gang related. The suspect fled from the scene. It marks the fifth homicide in Merced in 2025.

On Sunday, officers responded to the 800 block of S Street at 10 p.m. for reports of a shooting in the parking lot of a laundromat.

Officers arrived and found a man with a gunshot wound inside a vehicle, Barajas said.

The 45-year-old victim was pronounced dead. The motive for the shooting is unclear.

The suspect fled on foot following the shooting. Barajas said both shootings appear to be unrelated.
