Man robbed of medications in Merced

Police arrested an 18-year-old and a juvenile after they allegedly robbed a man leaving a local hospital of his medication bag.

According to Merced police, officers were called to the 3300 block of G Street on a report of a robbery just before noon Friday. Police found the 50-year-old victim, who told officers he had been walking from the hospital when two people, later identified as Mark Moreno and a Latino juvenile boy, approached him and asked for a cigarette.

When he could not give them a cigarette, the suspects demanded his property. He refused and they punched him in the face several times, authorities said. Then the suspects took his medication bag and ran away. The victim suffered cuts and bruises to his face; he was taken to a hospital.

Police found the suspects, who lived in the area, and found the medication bag in the home. Both reportedly admitted their involvement in the robbery.

Investigators ask anyone with any information regarding this crime to contact Sgt. Brian Rodriguez at 209-385-4710, or the Merced Police Department Tipster Line at 209-385-4725.
