The Merced family of the teenager fatally shot the night of Nov. 19 has created a GoFundMe page to raise money for his funeral expenses and other family needs.

Davarion Granados, 16, has been identified by his mother, Maria Granados, as the victim of the shooting.

Merced Police Department officials did not release his name, due to his age.

Granados said in the GoFundMe post: “Losing our 16-year-old Davarion has been a heartbreaking experience for us. In the wake of this senseless loss, our community has come together to honor his memory. We remember Davarion not just as a victim of violence, but as a vibrant young man filled with energy, humor, and kindness — someone who deserved so much more time to grow, to laugh, and to love.”

As of Monday at 3 p.m, the effort had raised more than $3,000. The goal is $5,000.

Merced officers responded to reports of the shooting at about 9:45 p.m. at an apartment complex on the 400 block of Lesher Street.

Police have not announced any information on suspects.
