Man arrested for Maryland sex assault may have ties to Los Banos case, sheriff says

A 27-year-old Madera resident has been arrested for sexual assault and will be extradited to Maryland, the Madera County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post.

According to the post, the Sheriff’s Office was contacted by police in Maryland requesting help to apprehend Mauricio Martinez-Garcia. The Montgomery County Police Department in Maryland told Madera authorities that Martinez-Garcia was the suspect in a sexual assault case in its jurisdiction.

Detectives later connected Martinez-Garcia to a second assault that occurred in Los Banos, the post said.

On Tuesday, Madera County Sheriff’s Office detectives arrested Martinez-Garcia at his residence without incident, the post said.

Martinez was booked into the Madera County Sheriff’s Office Jail for charges of rape.

Detectives believe there could be additional victims.

Anyone with information is urged to call Madera County Sheriff’s Office Detective Amanda Wood at 559-706-6343 or 559-675-7770.
