Breaking news

Police in Dos Palos have revealed some details about the community’s first homicide investigation since 2018.

The homicide occurred in the 2300 block of Santos Ave. on Dec. 16, according to a Dos Palos Police Department Facebook post.

At around 2:15 p.m., police were called to the area for a welfare check. After officers arrived, they found a man who was unresponsive. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim has been identified as Porfirio Romero, 80, of Dos Palos.

Porfirio Romero, 43, of Dos Palos — believed to be the victim’s son — was identified as a person of interest. He was arrested Dec. 17 after leading authorities on a pursuit in Fresno.

The pursuit involved three California Highway Patrol units that traveled along Highways 99 and 41 in both directions, the CHP said. It came to an end north on 99 near Golden State Boulevard.

The suspect failed to comply with commands and was bitten by Fresno County Sheriff K-9. He was taken to the hospital.

The homicide investigation remains active, Dos Palos policed said in the Facebook post.
