Man shot in Merced the day after Christmas. Deputies are searching for a suspect

A verbal argument escalated into a shooting in Merced on Friday morning, leaving a 24-year-old man with a wound to his abdomen, according to Merced County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to a shooting at about 8:42 a.m. in the 300 block of East Childs Avenue, the Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post.

On arrival, they found the man suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a hospital, where he is listed in serious but stable condition, the post said.

Deputies are searching for a suspect. He is described as a Hispanic male, about 34 to 40 years old, between 5-foot-8 and 6 feet tall, and weighing about 200 pounds. He has a full beard, the post said.

The suspect may have been wearing a gray or green sweater with blue or black jeans, the post said.

Anyone who sees a man matching this description is urged not to approach and to immediately call 911.

Anyone with information about the shooting should call the Merced County Sheriff’s Office at 209-385-7445. Callers may remain anonymous, the post said.
