Merced police searching for suspect after fatal shooting early Sunday

An 18-year-old Merced man is dead and a suspect is on the loose after a fatal shooting in Merced that happened in the early morning on Sunday, according to the Merced Police Department.

An arrest warrant for homicide is out for the suspect, 20-year-old Moises Reyes of Merced.

Reyes is 5-foot-6 and 180 pounds, police said. He has black hair and brown eyes, and is considered dangerous, according to MPD Sgt. Christian Lupian.

Police were called out to the scene of the shooting, in the area of Childs Ave. and R Street, at 12:31 a.m. Sunday, Lupian said.

When officers arrived, they found an 18-year-old male with a gunshot out. They attempted live-saving measures, but the victim died at the scene, Lupian said.

According to Lupian, the shooting was preceded by an argument between the two men that happened on the 1300 block of Stuart Dr.

Lupian said the shooting was not gang-related, although the suspect has gang ties. The victim did not have gang ties, Lupian said.

The shooting was not related to other recent gang-related shootings in Merced, Lupian said.
