Update: Second person arrested after Atwater infant’s death, police say

A second person has been arrested in connection with the death of an infant on Jan. 23, Atwater police announced Monday.
Jasmine Polk of Atwater was taken into custody on Monday afternoon, police said in a Facebook post.
Polk was taken to Merced County jail.
Police did not reveal the relationship between Polk and the infant or her age. They also did not reveal the relationship, if any, between Polk and the man previously arrested in connection with the infant’s death.
Polk was booked into the Merced County jail on a murder charge and a charge of assault on a child under 8 years old resulting in death.

An Atwater man is facing a felony charge in connection with an infant’s death that happened last month, Atwater police said.
Maleek McIntyre was arrested on Wednesday, according to an Atwater Police Department Facebook post.
On Jan. 23, police responded to the 600 block of Cedar Ave. for a possibly deceased infant.
Officers arrived and attempted live-saving measures until medical personnel arrived.
The child was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
On Wednesday, police said, McIntyre was arrested without incident and booked into the Merced County Jail McIntyre on a murder charge and a charge of assault on a child under 8 years old resulting in death..
The investigation into the child’s death continues, the post said.
