Hilmar man, 21, faces charge of attempted murder after gas station shooting

Breaking news

The Merced County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting at a Hilmar gas station Thursday after an argument among several people.

Deputies responded to a shooting at 7:25 p.m. at the Kwik Serv Gas Station at 8480 Lander Ave., according to a Sheriff’s Office Facebook post.

Witnesses told deputies that Cesar Reynoso Deluna, a 21-year-old Hilmar man, was responsible for the shooting, the post said.

Deluna fled the scene after allegedly shooting at a man who was sitting in a car.

The man drove himself to the hospital, where he was treated for an injury to his forehead. It’s not clear from the post whether the man was grazed by a bullet or struck by glass or some other material as a result of the shooting.

Deluna was found at his residence in Hilmar and arrested. The firearm also was recovered, the post said.

Deluna was booked into the Merced County Sheriff’s Office Jail for attempted murder.

Anyone with additional information about the incident is urged to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 209-385-7445. Callers may remain anonymous.
