A Merced traffic stop over an expired registration led to an arrest of a 41-year-old man for being a felon in possession of a firearm, the Merced County Sheriff’s Office said.

At around 1:30 a.m. Friday, William Grajeda was pulled over by deputies in the Beachwood area of Merced, according to a Facebook post by the Sheriff’s Office.

Sgt. Collins was patrolling when he initiated the traffic stop . The vehicle was searched and a loaded 9mm handgun was found, the post said.

Grajeda was arrested and booked into the Merced County Jail for “being a felon addicted to narcotics in possession of a firearm, a felon prohibited from owning a firearm, altering or removing identification marks on a firearm, and unlawful possession of a loaded firearm.”
