Atwater police make arrest in midday stabbing. Here are the charges

Police have arrested an Atwater man suspected of a stabbing that happened Tuesday afternoon.

Juan Miranda Hernandez was arrested Wednesday and booked into the Merced County Jail on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and attempted murder, according to an Atwater Police Department Facebook post.

Officers were called to the scene of the stabbing on Tuesday at 12:53 p.m. in the 3200 block of New Mexico Avenue in Atwater.

They found a man suffering from stab wounds, Atwater police said.

He was taken by helicopter to an area hospital for treatment. Details on his condition are unavailable.
