Delhi shooting investigation leads to gun, drug charges, Merced County sheriff says
A 26-year-old man was arrested Monday for gun, drug and gang-related charges after an investigation into a shooting in Delhi on March 26.
Guillermo Cardenas shot at a person during a confrontation multiple times, but missed his target and instead hits the person’s vehicle, the Merced County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post. He fled the scene after the shooting.
After an investigation, Cardenas was located driving a vehicle, the post said. Deputies attempted to stop him, but he led them on a short pursuit before stopping on Lewis Circle in Delhi.
A search of Cardena’s vehicle led to a loaded gun on the floorboard.
During a search at the suspect’s residence, deputies a pound of cocaine, items suggesting narcotics sales, a loaded magazine and ammunition.
According to the sheriff’s office post, other items associated with gang involvement were found, and all items were accessible to two young juveniles in the home.
Cardenas was booked into the Merced County Jail for:
- Assault with a firearm
- Participating in a criminal street gang
- Being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm
- Possession of narcotics with the intent to sell
- Child endangerment
