A wanted Atwater man led police on a chase and eventually crashed into a downtown business on Wednesday morning, police said.

The man, Paul Anderson, was wanted in connection to several cases in Merced and Madera counties, according to an Atwater Police Department Facebook post.

Police spotted the man at 11:25 a.m. driving an allegedly stolen pickup truck on Winton Way.

Officers tried to pull him over, but he took off and a pursuit ensued. Anderson crashed the truck into a business near Fifth Street and Broadway Avenue.

After crashing, Anderson fled on foot, leaving behind a loaded firearm, the post said.

He eventually was caught and arrested on multiple charges, the post said.
