Breaking news

A 76-year-old father has been hospitalized and his 37-year-old son has been arrested for a stabbing Wednesday night in Los Banos, police say.

Officers from Los Banos Police Department were called to the 300 block of North Street at about 9:18 p.m. for reports of a fight in front of a residence.

When officers arrived, they found two people on the ground, according to a Los Banos Police Department Facebook post. One was the elderly man suffering from multiple stab wounds. The other was the son, Gabriel Ortiz, who had been taken to the ground by a neighbor.

The father was talking to a neighbor when his son attacked him, the post said. During the assault, a nearby neighbor saw the incident and ordered Ortiz to the ground until officers arrived.

Officers arrested Ortiz at the scene, the post said.

The father was airlifted to a Modesto-area hospital, where he remains in critical condition and continues to receive treatment, the post said.
