Merced police investigating shooting that left 28-year-old man dead

Homicide investigation

Merced police detectives are investigating a shooting that left a 28-year-old man dead Tuesday night.

Officers from the Merced Police Department were called to an apartment complex on the 1200 block of Devonwood Drive at about 9:30 p.m. for reports of shots being fired.

When officers arrived, they found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Lifesaving efforts were attempted by officers, but the man died at the scene, according to a Merced Police Department news release.

It is too early in the investigation to know if the shooting was gang-related, according to Sgt. Christian Lupian.

Lupian said in the news release that a blue Subaru sedan is a vehicle of interest in the case.

No tenants at the apartment complex were injured in the shooting, the sergeant said.
