An Atwater man was arrested Tuesday morning on suspicion of committing a string of armed robberies in the Merced County city.

Atwater Police Department detectives and officers served a search warrant in the 1900 block of Brookhaven Place, near Buhach Colony High School.

The school was on lockdown as a precaution while the search warrant was served and the suspect, Jordan Ramirez, was taken into custody, police said.

Police say Ramirez was involved in multiple armed robberies of convenience stores in Atwater, as well as other armed robberies, according to an Atwater Police Department Facebook post.

Police said license plate reader cameras were used to identify Ramirez’s vehicle and his location.

While serving the search warrant, police found evidence of the crimes, the post said.

Ramirez was booked into the Merced County Jail for the armed robberies and a previous felony warrant, the post said.
