The Los Banos Police Department shared details about a vehicle pursuit that took place throughout the city Sunday.

According to a press release, officers attempted a traffic stop at about 10:35 p.m, but the driver led officers on a pursuit for about 26 minutes.

The pursuit was turned over to California Highway Patrol west of Los Banos on Henry Miller Road, where the driver stopped and was taken into custody. The driver, identified as Michael Segoviano, 29, was determined by officers to be under the influence of alcohol.

During their investigation, the press release said, officers learned that “a female passenger in the vehicle had attempted to exit multiple times during the pursuit but was unable to do so.” As a result, Segoviano was booked on kidnapping charges as well as felony evading a police officer, driving under the influence of alcohol, and driving with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08% or great.

While the pursuit “remained at relatively close speeds and was closely monitored by officers to ensure public safety”, the department also recognized the impact to the community, noting that “drivers who fail to yield cause unnecessary danger to the motorists in our community. We appreciate the community’s patience while we navigated this incident.”
