Merced shooting sends man to the hospital, police say
Officers from the Merced Police Department are investigating a shooting that happened Wednesday night in the southwest part of town.
A man was shot multiple times in the back, according to Lt. Jose Barajas. The shooting happened in the area of R Street and Childs Avenue.
The man was taken by air ambulance to a hospital and is expected to survive.
It appears the shooting was unprovoked, Barajas said in an email, and it’s too early in the investigation to tell if it was gang-related.
There is no information about potential suspects. It is believed to be an isolated incident.
The Merced Police Department recently started working its gang unit seven days a week for the summer, Barajas said.
