CHP investigates homicide after finding body in trunk of vehicle in Merced County
California Highway Patrol officers discovered a body in the trunk of a vehicle parked on the side of a highway in Merced County on Thursday afternoon.
The discovery has led to a homicide investigation, according to a CHP Los Banos news release.
At about 12:20 p.m., the CHP Merced Communications Center received a report of a missing person believed to be on Highway 152 east of Lower Cottonwood Road.
According to the news release, officers from the CHP Los Banos area and deputies from the Merced County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene. When they opened the trunk of a white Tesla sedan, they discovered the body of an unidentified Hispanic male.
CHP Central Division Major Crimes Unit detectives are leading the homicide investigation, the news release said.
