Merced DA charges woman with first-degree murder for allegedly killing mother
The Merced County District Attorney’s Office on Wednesday announced it has charged Selena Bass-Vasquez with the murder of her mother.
Bass-Vasquez, 28, of Merced, allegedly fatally stabbed her mother, 53-year-old Michelle Vasquez, also of Merced, on Saturday.
Bass-Vasquez is charged with first-degree murder with an enhancement for the use of a deadly weapon, the DA’s Office said in a Facebook post.
Bass-Vasquez will be arraigned July 23 in the Merced Superior Court.
Officers responded at around 1:30 p.m. Saturday to a home in the 300 block of Brookdale Drive to conduct a welfare check.
When no one answered, officers entered and found Michelle Vasquez dead. She had multiple stab wounds, according to Merced police.
Police issued a be-on-the-lookout alert for Bass-Vasquez, who was considered armed and dangerous. Authorities said she was with her 1-year-old son.
A person spotted Bass-Vasquez at a local park; officers responded and arrested her without incident, police said. The child was found and was unharmed, police said.
