An Atwater man was arrested on numerous gun charges after an attempt to serve an arrest warrant turned into a brief standoff in Atwater on Thursday morning.

Atwater police detectives and officers attempted to serve an arrest/search warrant in the 1700 block of Buhach Road, according to a police Facebook post.

The individual involved did not initially surrender, and a short standoff ensued.

Merced County’s SWAT team was called out to the scene, but before it arrived, the person left the residence and surrendered to officers.

During a search of the residence, stolen firearms and ammunition were located, police said.

Asuncion Rodriguez of Atwater was arrested on various firearms charges, the post said. The case is still under investigation.
