Delhi homicide victim identified

A man shot and killed over the weekend was identified Tuesday as a 23-year-old Delhi man, the Merced County Coroner’s Office said.

Investigators have released few details regarding the death of Juan Reyes, whose body was found about 4 a.m. Sunday in the front yard of his home in the 16000 block of Jeffrey Court in Delhi.

No arrests have been made.

Detective Sgt. Chuck Hale said it was too early in the investigation to comment on any possible motives, including whether detectives believe the case may be gang related.

Deputies have said only that Reyes was shot and was pronounced dead at a hospital.

The death marked the 21st homicide of the year in Merced County and the second in the community of Delhi.

Anyone with information about Sunday’s homicide is asked to contact Merced County sheriff’s detectives at 209-385-7445. Tips are confidential and callers may remain anonymous.
