Atwater police look for carjacker

Authorities are looking for a carjacker in connection with an incident that occurred late last week near Augusta and Lake Ridge in Atwater, police reported Monday.

A driver was attacked by a man who made off with the victim’s silver Ford Expedition around 3:24 p.m. Friday in the 1500 block of Augusta Lane, according to police.

The driver said he and his passenger were approached by a man pushing a bike who asked for a cigarette. When the driver went to hand him one, the man began punching him in the face, taking the driver’s keys and the vehicle.

The carjacker was described as a Latino man, possibly between the ages of 18 and 20. He is of slim build and between 5 feet, 11 inches and 6 feet tall, according to the report.

As of Monday, the vehicle had not been located.
