A 28-year-old Merced woman was jailed after police found her with a stolen gun, according to police.

A Merced police officer found several people loitering near the 1800 block of I Street on Tuesday evening. Police are routinely called to the area and served three search warrants there in March, the department said in a news release.

Marci Huggins, who is on probation, began walking to an apartment when she saw an officer arrive. While being searched, police found she had a .22-caliber handgun that was reported stolen from the San Jose area, according to Merced police.

Huggins was booked into the Merced County Jail on suspicion of being an ex-felon in possession of a gun, ammunition and stolen property. In the past, Huggins has been jailed on allegations of burglary, auto theft and battery, according to jail records.

On Wednesday, she was no longer in custody.
