Livingston house fire sparked by pot growers, say police

An electrical fire sparked at a home Sunday morning was due to an illegal pot growing operation inside the residence, according to police.

Emergency personnel responded to the fire at 5:30 a.m. at 1432 Chardonnay Way, police Sgt. Ray Fong said.

No injuries were reported in the fire, which burned the garage. No suspects were arrested.

Fong said the fire happened because the residents tapped into the home’s main power source to run the growing operation. Police found 93 plants in a bedroom and the garage.

Fong said the residential fire was at least the third one he’s seen in Livingston started by marijuana growers diverting power.

Police are asking anyone with information about the fire to call (209) 394-7916. Tips are kept confidential and callers can remain anonymous.
