Deputies seek public’s help in identifying suicide victim
Merced County sheriff’s investigators are seeking the public’s help in identifying a man who committed suicide earlier this week.
The man apparently entered a business property around 11:30 a.m. Monday in the 3300 block of Highway 59 in Merced. Employees spotted the man running toward a company shop and tried to make contact with the individual, the Sheriff’s Department said.
The man eluded employees, climbed a 60-foot-tall silo and jumped off, plunging to the ground. He was pronounced dead at the scene, deputies confirmed.
Sgt. Delray Shelton said the man did not carry any identification, so deputies have been unable to notify the man’s family.
Deputies are also reaching out to other agencies in Merced County in hopes of identifying the man.
Investigators described him as a white male adult, 19 to 25 years old, about 5 feet 7 inches tall, 109 pounds, with black medium-length wavy hair, brown eyes, and a thin mustache and goatee.
Deputies said the man had no identifying birth marks, tattoos or scars.
He was wearing jeans with three jackets with hoods, boot socks and no shoes.
Deputies are asking anyone who may have an idea about the man’s identity to contact the Deputy Coroner’s Office at (209) 385-7369.
