Oakhurst grocery store burglarized

Two safes were stolen from the Grocery Outlet Bargain Market in Oakhurst, but a thief or thieves who forced open the front door disabled the store’s video surveillance and alarm systems, the Madera County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Investigators did not disclose a damage estimate or say what they believe was inside the safes, which were removed from the store’s business office. The burglary was reported around 4 a.m. Sunday at the store, 40301 Junction Drive in Oakhurst.

Brandon and Jessica Steele opened the large chain store’s Oakhurst location in September 2013, according to the online Business Journal. The owners could not immediately be reached for comment Monday.

“Sheriff’s detectives are investigating this incident and will be processing physical evidence recovered from the scene,” Madera deputies said in a brief news release.

Anyone with information related to this burglary can call the Sheriff’s Office at 559-675-7770.
