One person shot and killed near Atwater park, police confirm
One man was shot and killed Monday on Park Street, just outside Memorial Park.
Multiple shots were reported around 5:30 p.m. in the 1200 block of Park Street, near Elm Avenue.
Police say the victim, believed to be a 27-year-old man, was flown to area hospital with multiple gunshots wounds, where he later died, Lt. Samuel Joseph told the Sun-Star.
“We are seeking multiple suspects and the vehicle they were in,” Joseph said.
Investigators said they are looking for two to three men who left the scene in an “unknown type” vehicle, possibly white in color.
Residents in the area, who asked not to be identified due to safety concerns, reported hearing up to about a dozen gunshots
This is the 26th homicide of the year in Merced County and the fourth of 2015 in the city of Atwater.
