Merced teenager robbed at gunpoint
A 16-year-old alleged gang member was arrested late Monday after he and another teenager stole a bicycle at gunpoint, the Merced Police Department reported.
No one was injured.
Capt. Tom Trindad said the weapon allegedly used in the armed robbery has not been found.
The victim, a 15-year-old boy, was riding his bicycle just before 11 p.m. in the 2100 block of G Street when he was approached by two teenagers who made unspecified “gang slurs” and demanded the victim’s bicycle, police said in a news release.
One of the teenagers pointed a handgun at the victim while the other juvenile took the bicycle, police said.
Officer Christian Lupian, about 40 minutes after the robbery, spotted a 16-year-old boy riding a bicycle matching the description of the one stolen in the area of East 23rd Street and Weston Way. The teenager was eventually identified as one of the two involved in the robbery, police said.
He was booked into the Merced County Juvenile Justice Correctional Complex on suspicion of robbery and criminal street gang participation, police said.
The second teenager had not been located as of Tuesday, Trindad confirmed. A description of him was not available Tuesday.
