Gunman sought after man is shot in Merced
A 21-year-old man was in “stable but critical” condition Monday after he was shot in an alley on the south side of Merced, the Police Department reported.
The victim, whose name was not released, was shot at least once in the abdomen around 6:30 p.m. Sunday in the 300 block of West 11th Street. He was flown to a hospital in Modesto, police said in a brief statement.
No arrests have been made.
Investigators said he was in the alley near Bi-Rite Liquor Store, near Martin Luther King Jr. Way when he was shot by a man described by police as a Latino in his 30s or 40s, officers said.
“The motivation behind the shooting has yet to be determined and is not known whether this is gang related,” police said in the statement.
Detectives are hoping someone from the public will come forward with information.
Anyone with information can call Detective Chris Russell at 209-385-4707 or the Merced Police Department Tipster Line at 209-385-4725.
