One dead, another hurt in Planada shooting

One person was killed and another injured in a shooting early Friday morning in the 200 block of Fancher Street, according to the Merced County Sheriff’s Department.

Sgt. Delray Shelton said the investigation is still in its infancy. Deputies were called to a residence shortly after 1 a.m. for a shots fired call.

Upon their arrival, deputies located two male victims. Both were flown to Modesto hospitals, where one was pronounced dead.

Authorities said the second victim was shot in the foot and his injuries were not believed to be life-threatening. An update on his condition was not available Friday.

The names of the victims have not been released by law enforcement, and the motive remains under investigation.

The death is the 32nd homicide reported this year in Merced County.
