Fire displaces El Nido family

An El Nido family lost their home in a fire over the weekend that caused thousands of dollars in damages, according to the Merced County Fire Department.

Cal Fire Battalion Chief Jeremy Rahn said the family of four, which includes two children, stayed with relatives after the fire on Saturday afternoon. Names of the victims were not released.

Eight firefighters responded about 2:30 p.m. Saturday to a single-wide trailer in the 400 block of East Roosevelt Road. Firefighters used two fire engines and a water tender to extinguish the blaze.

Firefighters estimated damage to the structure and contents at about $15,000. There were no reports of damage to other structures in the area. No injuries were reported.

Rahn said the cause and origin of the fire remained under investigation Monday.
