Merced man shot during gang attack, police say
A 38-year-old Merced man was shot in the back during a gang-related drive-by attack on Saturday, the Police Department reported.
The victim, Michael Garcia, was flown to a regional hospital for treatment. He was shot at least once in the back, but his injury is not believed to be life-threatening, Sgt. Jay Struble said.
Garcia was shot just before 9 p.m. outside a home at Motel Drive and Highway 140, according to police.
No arrests have been made.
Investigators believe the attacker may have left the area heading north on Motel Drive, possibly in a “smaller Honda,” Struble said.
A descriptions of the shooter was not available.
