Merced police arrested two people on Wednesday and seized 7 ounces of methamphetamine, two firearms and a “large amount” of marijuana, officers reported.

Michael Salazar, 56, and Dama Harper, 43, were arrested just after 4 p.m. at the Applegate Inn in Atwater by members of the Merced Police Department’s Gang Violence Suppression Unit, the department announced in a news release.

Gang investigators “developed information that Michael Salazar has been involved in the sales of narcotics and was in possession of firearms,” police said.

Officers served a search warrant at the motel on Sycamore Avenue and located a loaded .380-caliber handgun, a 12-gauge shotgun, ammunition, 7 ounces of methamphetamine and marijuana, police said.

The exact amount of marijuana seized was unavailable.

Salazar was arrested and booked at Merced County jail for felon in possession of a firearm, felon in possession of ammunition and possession of narcotics for sales, police said.

Harper was arrested for possession of narcotics for sale, police said.
