Suspect eludes capture after vehicle pursuit
The California Highway Patrol on Sunday asked for the public’s help locating a person who eluded capture over the weekend in a vehicle pursuit that began somewhere in Stanislaus County and ended in Delhi.
No description of the person was available Sunday. No injuries were reported.
Exactly when and where the pursuit began in Stanislaus County was not released Sunday.
Merced-area CHP officers joined the vehicle pursuit around 8 p.m. Saturday on Highway 99, around the area of Shanks Road, Officer Moises Onsurez said.
Officers chased the vehicle, described as a dark-colored Chevrolet pickup truck, east on Shanks Road at about 40 mph before it turned right onto Vincent Road, the CHP said.
The pursuit wound through several streets in Delhi before the vehicle turned into a residential neighborhood on Sixth Street.
Authorities said the driver pulled into a residence and fled the vehicle on foot.
“Officers gave chase; however, the driver was able to elude capture,” Onsurez said.
The Merced County Sheriff’s Department assisted in a search of the area with K-9 teams. The driver remained at large Sunday.
Officers did not comment further on the vehicle or the home where the pickup was abandoned.
Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the driver is asked to call the Merced CHP office at (209) 356-2958. Tips are confidential and callers may remain anonymous.
