Two arrested in stolen vehicle with loaded firearm in Merced

A man and woman from Merced have been arrested on suspicion of possessing a loaded firearm and stolen property, police said.

Jesus Serena, 47, and Irene Serena, 34, were arrested shortly after 3 p.m. Wednesday. They were riding in a stolen vehicle on West 12th Street, Merced police said in a news release.

Officers searched the car and found a loaded short-barreled shotgun inside a gym bag that was lying on the front passenger seat of the car. Jesus Serena was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm, possession of a short-barreled shotgun, possession of ammunition and possession of stolen property.

Irene Serena was arrested on suspicion of possession of a short-barreled shotgun and possession of stolen property. Both suspects were booked at Merced County jail.
