Merced teenager assaulted with baseball bat
A Merced teenager remained in serious condition Friday, a day after he was assaulted with a baseball bat, the Police Department reported.
The 15-year-old Yosemite High School student, was walking after school, just before 3 p.m., when he was confronted by a man in the area of West 18th and H streets, Capt. Tom Trindad said.
“The two of them exchanged some words and the victim started to walk away,” police said in a news release. “The suspect then walked up to the victim and hit him in the head with the bat. After the battery, the suspect walked away.”
No arrests have been made.
Officials at Yosemite High School did not return a phone call seeking comment. Efforts to reach the victim’s family and friends on Friday were unsuccessful.
The victim was taken to a regional hospital for treatment. He was still listed in serious condition Friday afternoon, police said.
“A motive has not been determined in this case and detectives are working on identifying the suspect,” police said. The batterer was described as an 18-year-old white male wearing a white T-shirt and blue jeans.
