Fire guts 16 vacant mobile homes in Beachwood area
An early morning fire in the Beachwood area gutted 16 vacant mobile homes on Monday.
No injuries were reported.
Flames were reported just after 8 a.m. at the vacant mobile home area in the 3400 block of Beachwood Drive.
Dense fog hampered the response of firefighters with the state Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, Battalion Chief Jeremy Rahn said. “If the fog hadn’t been such a factor this morning, more people would’ve likely seen such a large fire and we likely would’ve received more reports sooner,” he said.
Thirty firefighters responded to the blaze, using six engines and three water tenders to extinguish flames. It took firefighters about one hour to get the fire under control, Rahn said.
Firefighters remained on scene for more than six hours mopping up.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
An official damage estimate was not available Monday.
“We can say that all 16 single-wide units were destroyed by the fire,” Rahn said. “We were able to save about five or six other trailers and various equipment in the area.”
Anyone with information about the fire is asked to contact the Cal Fire Fire Prevention Bureau at (209) 966-3622.
