Second teen arrested in Los Banos slaying
A second suspect, a 17-year-old male from Los Banos, has been arrested in connection with the Dec. 7 killing of Raymond Sevilla.
The arrest happened Thursday about 8 a.m., the Los Banos Police Department confirmed Monday.
According to a press release, the latest suspect has been booked into the Merced County Juvenile Hall facility. He is being held on suspicion of murder, attempted murder and participation in a criminal street gang. The latest suspect’s name has not been released because he’s a juvenile, although he may be charged as an adult.
Sevilla, 17, of South Dos Palos was killed at Dos Amigos Park in the 2200 block of San Luis Street. Sevilla was shot in the upper body and collapsed at San Luis Street and Ward Road, about half a block from the park.
Los Banos police arrested the first suspect, 16-year-old Fabian Cruz Roman, on Dec. 17. Roman has been charged as an adult in the case.
According to police, Sevilla and Roman belonged to rival street gangs and the motive for the killing was attributed to gang violence.
“We believe the two suspects we have in custody each played a major role in the shooting death of the victim,” Los Banos Police Commander Ray Reyna said in the press release. “Although we still have more work to do, we believe we have strong evidence in this case.”
