Merced police are looking for a man dressed in black who this week robbed a Citibank at gunpoint.

Officers responded to a silent bank alarm around 4:15 p.m. Wednesday at Citibank, 3190 M St., Sgt. Curt Gorman said.

“The suspect had entered the bank twice before the robbery – entered, looked around and left before he came back to commit the robbery,” Gorman said.

Investigators said the man was armed with a handgun and passed a note to a bank employee. Officers declined to comment on exactly what the note said.

He left the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash.

There were no injuries, police said.

Investigators described the robber as a black man, possibly in his 30s, standing more than 6 feet tall and weighing around 300 pounds. He was last seen running east from the bank.

Investigators released two images from a security camera during the robbery, hoping someone from the public will recognize the robber and call police.

Gorman said police did not immediately release information about the robbery to the public because they wanted to publish the security-camera footage.

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to contact lead investigator Detective Joe Deliman at 209-385-6992.
