2 arrested in armed bank robbery in Merced
Two men have been arrested in connection with Wednesday’s armed bank robbery in Merced, the Police Department reported.
Andrew T. Lamar, 22, of Atwater is believed to be the man who robbed Citibank on M Street on Wednesday afternoon. John J. Jensen, 22, also of Atwater, is accused of acting as the getaway driver, the Police Department said in a news release.
Police have not said how much money was taken during the robbery.
Lamar was arrested late Thursday in Atwater. Police spotted him getting into a vehicle carrying a travel bag with clothing inside. He had changed his appearance since the robbery by shaving his head, police said in the statement.
Investigators said Lamar confessed to robbing the bank.
Detective Joe Deliman, the lead investigator in the case, learned Lamar had an accomplice, later identified as Jensen, who allegedly drove Lamar to and from the bank.
Jensen was arrested just before 11 a.m. today, according to police.
The bank was robbed around 4:15 p.m. Wednesday. A man with a gun passed a note to a bank employee and left with an undisclosed amount of cash, police said.
Police released two photos of the suspect taken from the bank’s security cameras. Officers said they received several tips from the public that helped them identify Lamar as the suspect.
