Gang member arrested after brief pursuit in Atwater, police say
A man described as a known gang member was arrested Sunday in Atwater after a brief foot pursuit by officers, the Police Department reported.
Raymond L. Bankhead, 22, was booked into the Merced County jail on suspicion of a parole violation, Lt. Samuel Joseph told the Sun-Star. Details of the suspected parole violation were not available.
Officers were called just before 4 p.m. to a home on Applegate Road by a woman who said she was “being harassed by her ex-boyfriend,” Joseph said.
While searching for the ex-boyfriend, officers spotted a man dressed in black clothing who ran away when approached by police. The man, later identified by police as Bankhead, was captured after the chase and a brief struggle with officers, authorities said.
Bankhead was still in custody Monday. A booking photograph and bail amount were not available.
