Police: Atwater man chases victim with gun, ax
An argument over a missing wallet ended Saturday in Atwater when one man allegedly pulled a gun on another man, then chased the victim into the street with an ax, the Police Department reported.
Gregory R. Pritchard, 26, was booked into the John Latorraca Correctional Facility on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, brandishing a firearm, making criminal threats and possession of metal knuckles. He remained in custody Saturday night on $91,000 bail, according to booking records.
Lt. Samuel Joseph said Pritchard got into an argument around 1:30 p.m. at a home on Sycamore Avenue with his former roommate, a 35-year-old man who said his wallet had gone missing. The fight ratcheted up and Pritchard allegedly pulled the gun and threatened to kill the victim, Joseph said.
Pritchard then allegedly chased the man off the property with an ax, according to police.
Joseph said investigators seized a revolver from a vehicle parked near the home, but did not locate an ax.
No injuries were reported.
