Merced police arrest man with stolen handgun
A man described by officers as a known gang member was arrested for possession of a stolen handgun during the weekend, Merced police reported Wednesday.
The Merced Police Department’s Gang Violence Suppression Unit went to the 600 block of Gannet Court to the home of Shaun Barnett, 21, on Saturday after getting information the man had a gun, police said in a news release.
The officers entered the home about 4 p.m., police said, and several people ran from the house but were caught. While searching the home, officers found a .45-caliber handgun, which was reported stolen in a Merced home burglary in early May, police said.
Barnett was arrested on suspicion of possession of a stolen handgun, but was not listed as an inmate on Wednesday at the Merced County jail, according to jail records.
