Anti-fracking group
Mercedians Against Fracking will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at United Methodist Church of Merced, 899 Yosemite Parkway. Parking is at the back of the church on Cypress Way. The program will include arrangements for the March for Real Climate Leadership in Oakland on Feb. 7. For more information, call (209) 631-3235.
Town hall meetings
The Merced City Council will hold two town hall meetings: one at 7 p.m. Thursdayat Tenaya Middle School, 760 W. Eighth St.; and the other at 7 p.m. Feb. 3 at Rivera Middle School, 945 Buena Vista Drive. Like all council meetings, town hall meetings are open to the public and community members are encouraged to let the council know what is on their minds.
Winter Pops Concert
The Merced Symphony Winter Pops Concert will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Merced Theatre. Conducted by Ming Luke, the concert will feature movie themes and classics with a Western flavor. The theater is at 301 W. Main St. Tickets are $39 general admission and $14 for students. For tickets, go to http://tickets.mercedtheatre.org or call (209) 381-0500.
Super Bowl Party
A Super Bowl Party will be at 3 p.m. Feb. 1 at the American Legion, 939 W. Main St. There will be finger foods and free raffle drinks. Bring your best pot luck food. Kickoff is 4 p.m. Wear your team jersey and root for your team.
Lobster Fest
Atwater Rotary’s 11th annual Lobster Fest will be 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, at the Atwater APC Hall Hall at Third and Elm Streets. Tickets are $50 and must be purchased in advance. The door prize is $1,000 in cash. Raffle tickets for 50 great prizes are $1. Tickets are available from Atwater Rotarians, or from Roger Wood at (209) 358-7343 or roger95301@att.net.
Dance lessons
The South Pacific Dance Company is teaching traditional dance and music from the cultures of Hawaii and Tahiti. Enrollment is being accepted for the spring semester, ages 4 through adult, beginners and advanced. Males and females are welcome. Classes are at Creation Station, 2408 Martin Luther King Jr. Way. In addition, the Soul Power Dance Crew is taking enrollment for an eight-week session in hip-hop dance for ages 7 through teens.
