One man shot during gunfight near Livingston
One man suffered multiple gunshot wounds Friday afternoon in an apparent gunfight near a rural market south of Livingston, the Merced County Sheriff’s Office said.
The man, described as an adult male, was shot around 2:20 p.m. while exchanging gunfire with at least one other person near the Westside Grocery store on Westside Boulevard, Detective Sgt. Chuck Hale said.
He is expected to survive, deputies said.
Hale said the two people fired 15 to 20 shots. A motive for the gunfight remained unclear Friday. Hale said investigators have not ruled out a gang connection.
It was unclear whether the other person involved in the shootout was hit. As of 5:45 p.m. Friday, deputies had not received any reports from hospitals of anyone suffering from gunshot wounds.
A description of the other person was not available.
Hale said detectives were interviewing witnesses and following up.
