Truck driver injured in crash in Merced County
A Merced truck driver suffered minor injuries Thursday when his vehicle overturned on Highway 59, south of East Mission Avenue, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The driver, Cristobal Pastrana, 41, suffered a laceration to his head and other unspecified injuries in the crash about 3:50 a.m., according to the CHP.
He was taken to Mercy Medical Center for treatment, Officer Moises Onsurez said.
No other injuries were reported.
The CHP said Pastrana was heading north on Highway 59 in a tractor-trailer hauling more than 6,000 gallons of milk when his vehicle drifted to the shoulder. “He tried to correct it, but crossed into the southbound lanes and overturned on the shoulder of the roadway,” Onsurez said.
The CHP said some milk spilled onto the roadway, but exactly how much was unclear. Onsurez said the crash did not affect traffic.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
