One arrested in Atwater Walmart robbery

A 24-year-old Merced man was arrested Monday, accused of robbing a Walmart last month, the Atwater Police Department reported.

Seng Moua was arrested in Merced on Monday morning in connection with the Jan. 22 robbery at the Atwater Walmart, 800 Commerce Ave., Lt. Samuel Joseph said.

Joseph said he could not comment on any specific evidence that led detectives to Moua during the two-week investigation.

“The detectives did a great job following up on leads and searching through the surveillance camera (footage),” Joseph said Monday.

Moua is accused of stealing at least two televisions. Police previously said at least one man entered Walmart, took the televisions and fled the store after assaulting and attempting to stab a store employee.

Joseph said investigators have not ruled out the possibility of locating additional suspects in the case.

Moua was booked into the Merced County Jail on suspicion of robbery, petty theft and other charges. He was still in custody Monday afternoon, according to booking records. He’s being held in lieu of $55,000 bail.

According to Merced County Superior Court records, Moua pleaded guilty in 2012 to a single felony count of attempted burglary for entering a Merced County home with the intent to steal. He also pleaded guilty in 2011 to a misdemeanor petty theft charge for stealing from the Walmart in Merced.

Atwater police said the case remains under investigation.
