Showcase of Merced education planned at Tenaya Middle School

The Merced City School District plans a fair this month to show off the work its students are doing in science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics.

The event, called the STEAM Fair, is planned from 4 to 8 p.m. May 27 at Tenaya Middle School, 760 W. Eighth St. Parents, students and the public are welcome to attend and check out the work of local students.

There will be performances, exhibits, displays, models and demonstrations from students.

The five areas of study highlighted by the fair are areas of focus for the district because the skills and knowledge in each discipline are important for student success in the modern era, according to a news release.

The curriculum used in schools focuses on an interdisciplinary and hands-on approach that is coupled with problem-solving.

Additionally, the fives areas of study will be a large component of the district’s Summer Academy, which is offered to students who live in the district’s attendance areas. The students must also be in grades 2 through 7 and attending a Merced school.

Applications for the academy can be submitted at the school the child attends during the regular school year.

For more information about the fair or the Merced City School District Summer Academy, call the Office of State and Federal Programs at (209) 385-6384.
