Merced City School District trustee resigns. He’s going back to school – in Michigan
A seat on the Merced City School District Board of Education is open following Miguel Lopez’s resignation effective June 5, according to a Thursday MCSD news release.
Lopez won the seat in 2016 for Area 2, which encompasses Merced’s west and northwest regions. His term was set to expire Nov. 20.
“I recently accepted an admission offer from the University of Michigan to pursue both a Master of Public Policy and Master of Business Administration,” Lopez said in the release. “This has been a personal goal that I have wanted to pursue for a long time, and I am excited that this dream is coming to fruition.”
Lopez said in the release that he was honored to serve nearly 12,000 students each year in award-winning learning programs including Montessori, GATE and other educational innovations like the STEAM Center.
The MCSD Board of Education voted during Tuesday’s meeting to make a provisional appointment to fill Lopez’s vacant seat.
